A remote planet in the Milky Way, chosen for one reason only: its core. A core saturated with naquadah, capable of supplying the enormous energy the ninth chevron demands. It's from here, under enemy fire, that a handful of survivors fled into the unknown, aboard Destiny.
Overview
Dialing the ninth chevron takes more energy than any conventional reactor can provide. The Ancients needed a rare kind of world: a planet whose core, saturated with naquadah, acts as a natural battery. Icarus was that world. Earth built a secret base there to unlock the gate's final secret.
Its story
When the Lucian Alliance attacks, everything collapses. Rather than dial Earth, which is deemed too risky, Dr. Rush starts the nine-chevron sequence. The gate opens onto the unknown and the survivors scramble through: they land aboard Destiny, an Ancient ship launched millions of years earlier toward the far reaches of the universe. As for Icarus, it is wiped off the map.
