Where it all began. Abydos is the first planet humanity ever reached through the Stargate. A desert under three moons, an enslaved people, and a false god to overthrow. The 1994 film takes place here, and the whole saga flows from it.
Overview
Abydos is a world of sand, home to the descendants of Egyptians whom the Goa'uld Ra abducted from Earth thousands of years ago to serve as his slaves. When the first team steps through the gate, they find a people crushed by fear, who worship Ra as a god. This is where the revolt ignites, and where Ra finally falls.
Its story
For Daniel Jackson, Abydos is more than a mission. It becomes his home. He stays there, he loves Sha're there, he finds a family there. Which makes what comes next all the more cruel: the planet ends up reduced to ashes by Anubis. But its people don't truly vanish: Oma Desala helps them ascend to a higher plane of existence. Abydos fades out the way it began: at the heart of the myth.
