Daniel Jackson's love, met on Abydos, then torn from him by the Goa'uld. Sha're's ordeal, a host imprisoned by a Goa'uld queen, haunts Daniel and gives his quest a heartbreaking dimension.
Overview
Sha're is Daniel Jackson's wife, whom he met on Abydos during the very first mission. Kasuf's daughter, she embodies the love and the home Daniel finds far from Earth, before fate separates them in the cruelest of ways.
History
On Abydos, Sha're and Daniel fall in love and marry. But their happiness is shattered when Apophis abducts the young woman and makes her the host of Amaunet, his Goa'uld queen. Sha're then disappears behind the false god living inside her.
From then on, finding and saving Sha're becomes one of Daniel's great quests, and an emotional driving force of the early seasons. Fighting Amaunet without hurting Sha're, a prisoner in her own body, is a heartbreaking dilemma.
Her story ends tragically, but Sha're continues to watch over Daniel, even beyond death, guiding him toward the Harcesis child. She remains the character's great lost love, and one of the most poignant figures in the saga.
The actor
In the series, Sha're is played by Vaitiare Bandera, an actress born in Tahiti in 1964 and raised in the United States. Fun detail: she had auditioned for the role in the 1994 film without getting it, before finally playing Sha're in Stargate SG-1.
In the original feature film, the character was played by Mili Avital. Vaitiare Bandera's luminous presence gave Daniel's great love all her strength and gentleness.
