Overview
Charin is a respected elder of the Athosian people and an almost maternal figure for Teyla. Keeper of her people's customs and memories, she embodies the wisdom of the elders in the refugee community on Atlantis.
Her story
Charin has lived through so many flights and losses that she carries within her the whole memory of the Athosians. For the orphaned Teyla, she has been a grandmother in all but blood.
Her death, serene and surrounded by the rites of her people, provides one of the most moving glimpses of Athosian traditions. Charin embodies the passing down of heritage, that fragile thread by which a battered people keeps its identity alive from generation to generation.
The actress
Charin is played by Brenda McDonald, a Canadian actress familiar from roles as dignified, gentle grandmothers. She gives the Athosian sage an unforgettable warmth.
