A young Wraith raised as a human, who dreams of being normal before sliding into darkness. Ellia is the tragedy of nature versus hope, played by an actress who would return to the series.
Overview
Ellia is a young Wraith taken in and raised by a scientist who hoped a treatment would free her from her predatory nature. Raised as a human, she dreams of being like the people around her.
Her story
Ellia's story is heartbreaking: despite all the love and care she has received, her Wraith nature eventually catches up with her. The treatment fails, and the young girl turns into a dangerous creature.
Her tragedy raises the question: can we escape what we are? Ellia embodies the drama of the Wraith seen in a different light, no longer as mere monsters but as beings who are themselves prisoners of their biology.
The actress
A remarkable fact: Ellia is played by Jewel Staite, Kaylee from the cult series Firefly. Won over by her performance, the producers later brought her back in a completely different and major role, that of Dr. Jennifer Keller. One actress, two characters who could not be more different.
