One of the respected figures among Teyla's people, keeper of Athosian traditions. Halling is the calm voice of a people of refugees, played by an actor who also plays a famous Wraith.
Overview
Halling is one of the leaders and elders of the Athosians, Teyla's people, forced to flee the Wraith again and again. A big, soft-spoken man, he embodies the dignity and faith of these refugees whom the Atlantis expedition takes under its wing.
His story
When the Athosians lose their world, Halling becomes one of the community's moral pillars, keeper of their customs and their hope. An attentive father and a man of faith, he carries the memory of a people constantly uprooted.
His relationship with the Tau'ri isn't always simple: their brusque ways sometimes clash with Athosian spirituality. But trust wins out in the end.
Halling embodies those peoples of Pegasus who survive with dignity under the constant threat of the Wraith, clinging to their values.
The actor
Halling is played by Christopher Heyerdahl, an actor with a surprising track record in the franchise: he plays several roles in it, including, under thick prosthetics, the most memorable Wraith of the series, the wily Todd.
The same deep, measured voice for the peaceful Athosian and the Wraith predator: quite a feat of acting.
