The Kawoosh
The Stargate's blast
- Nature
- Unstable vortex on establishment
- Effect
- Vaporizes whatever is in front of the Stargate
- Fan nickname
- The kawoosh
That plume of energy that bursts out every time the Stargate opens is the visual signature of the entire saga. The moment a wormhole is established, the Stargate spits out an unstable wave that disintegrates anything in front of it, before settling into a liquid mirror.
Overview
When the Stargate activates, it is no gentle opening. A huge bubble of energy surges forward a few meters while the wormhole stabilizes. Stand too close on the wrong side, and nothing will be left of you. This surge has become second nature at the SGC: you never stand in front of a Stargate that is lighting up.
History
Once the blast has passed, the energy falls back into a shimmering blue surface, the event horizon, through which you step through the Stargate. The contrast between the violence of the opening and the peaceful mirror that follows is part of Stargate's visual DNA, recognizable anywhere.
