Arthur's Mantle is episode 18 of season 9 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2005.
A device of Merlin's found at Glastonbury sends Mitchell and Carter into an out-of-phase dimension: present, invisible and inaudible, they pass through walls and colleagues while the SGC believes they've vanished. The machine isn't a gadget: it's Merlin's dimensional lab, designed to hide his research on a weapon capable of killing... ascended beings.
Why it matters to the mythology
The Sangraal enters the equation: Merlin was working on an anti-Ori weapon, and his trail becomes Earth's main hope.
The review
The out-of-phase dimension gimmick is a genre classic, but the episode gets double value from it: first as a comedy of frustrated ghosts, Mitchell yelling into everyone's deaf ears, then as a major mythological pivot with the revelation of the Sangraal. The Sodan attack at the end is a brutal reminder that the Priors never sleep. A transitional episode that has the good idea of being both funny and decisive.
