Crusade is episode 19 of season 9 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2005.
Vala is alive: via a communication device, she recounts her months in the Ori galaxy, her forced marriage to the pious Tomin, and above all her impossible pregnancy, a child conceived without a father, willed by the Ori themselves. As her story unfolds, the conclusion becomes inescapable at the SGC: the Ori shipyards are running at full capacity, and the invasion is coming now.
Why it matters to the mythology
Vala's miraculous pregnancy heralds the Orici, and the crusade ships are ready: the season's final countdown has begun.
The review
A storytelling episode of formidable efficiency: Claudia Black single-handedly carries forty minutes of flashbacks, from marital comedy among the crusaders to the anguish of a pregnancy she didn't choose, and she's prodigious in every register. Tomin, a sincere husband and gentle fanatic, instantly becomes one of the saga's most tragic characters. And the final image of the Ori shipyards sends a chill down your spine. The storm is coming, and now we know its face.
