Secrets is episode 9 of season 2 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 1998.
On Abydos, Sha're reappears... pregnant. The symbiote has gone dormant for the pregnancy: the child she carries is a Harcesis, the offspring of two Goa'uld hosts, the forbidden bearer of all their memory. Meanwhile on Earth, a journalist threatens to expose the program, and Carter's father, General Jacob Carter, tells his daughter he is dying of cancer.
Why it matters to the mythology
The episode plants three crucial seeds: the Harcesis child, the fragility of the secret, and Jacob Carter, whose destiny is about to change completely.

The review
A pivotal episode that juggles three storylines and doesn't fumble any of them. Daniel and Sha're's reunion, a bittersweet interlude before the tragedy, is played with a restraint that hurts. The journalist storyline reminds us that the world's biggest secret hangs by a thread, and its chilling resolution leaves a doubt the series never really cleared up. And in just a few scenes, Carmen Argenziano establishes a gruff, proud Jacob Carter we're going to love. Dense and masterful.
