Family is episode 8 of season 2 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 1998.
Bra'tac brings terrible news: Rya'c, Teal'c's son, is in the hands of Apophis, who is using him as bait and as a propaganda weapon. On Chulak, Teal'c discovers something even worse: his son seems to have sincerely sided with the false god. Between brainwashing and biological blackmail, it will take all the father's strength and the master's cunning to get the boy back.
Why it matters to the mythology
Teal'c's family remains the permanent hostage of his rebellion: Apophis has figured that out and will never hesitate to exploit it.
The review
The logical continuation of Teal'c's family arc, and an episode that has the merit of not sugarcoating things: a child's brainwashing, his hatred recited straight to camera, is tough to watch. Christopher Judge and Tony Amendola make a surrogate father-son duo that works beautifully. The resolution is a bit rushed, but the episode raises a question the series will keep asking for a long time: what does a man sacrifice when he chooses a cause over his own family?
