Lifeline is episode 2 of season 4 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2007.
To steal a ZPM from the Asurans, the expedition attempts the heist of the millennium on Asuras itself, with an unexpected card to play: Weir, whose nanites give her mental access to the enemy network. The plan succeeds... and Elizabeth stays behind, a willing prisoner covering the escape. The city finds an ocean world, but loses its founder.
Why it matters to the mythology
Weir exits by sacrificing herself on Asuras, and McKay quietly activates the Replicators' anti-Wraith code: two time bombs at once.
The review
The heist among the machines delivers on every infiltration promise, but the episode belongs to Torri Higginson: her half-human, half-nanite Weir, negotiating with Oberoth in the mental landscape and then choosing to stay, gives the character a queen's exit, ambiguous and heartbreaking. McKay's hidden move, reigniting the Asurans' anti-Wraith war directive, seems brilliant at the time: the entire galaxy will pay for this good idea. A masterful farewell, enormous consequences.
