Leader of the Pegasus Replicators, the cold face of a collective intelligence that knows neither doubt nor pity.
Overview
Oberoth is the voice of the Asurans. When this collective intelligence of human-form machines speaks, it speaks through him. No doubt, no remorse: just a relentless logic that considers organic life a simple error to be corrected.
History
The Asurans think as a single being, and Oberoth is their dominant voice. Created and then abandoned by the Ancients, the Replicators of Pegasus harbor a programmed grudge against them, and he is its coldest embodiment.
His goal is simple and total: annihilate everything connected to his creators' legacy, starting with the city of Atlantis. Against him, negotiating is pointless, because there is no one, strictly speaking, behind his eyes: only a program.
It will take a great deal of cunning, including turning the Replicators against the Wraith, to have any hope of neutralizing him. Because you cannot stop a will that has no fear, no doubt and no survival instinct.
Origins
Oberoth is the face of an enemy that, in theory, does not have one. The mouthpiece of a collective consciousness, an intelligence with no individual, no empathy, none of that touch of humanity that sometimes allows a heart to soften.
He embodies one of the great anxieties of our century: artificial intelligence that surpasses humans without sharing their values. Researchers who work on these questions speak of the "alignment problem": nothing guarantees that a highly intelligent machine will pursue goals compatible with ours, or that we will still be able to stop it once it has surpassed us.
Oberoth is exactly that nightmare: a superior, perfectly logical intelligence that has calmly concluded that humanity is surplus to requirements. The worst of enemies, the one no words will ever reach.
