Reunion is episode 3 of season 4 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2007.
Colonel Samantha Carter officially takes command of Atlantis, and her first file is a poisoned gift: survivors of Sateda have found Ronon, and among them is Tyre, his brother in arms. The joy of the reunion turns into a trap: the returnees work for the Wraith, and Ronon has to choose between his past and his new family.
Why it matters to the mythology
Carter settles into Weir's chair, and the Wraith worshippers gain faces: those of Ronon's former brothers.
The review
A smooth transfer of power, with Carter arriving with the humility of someone who knows she's succeeding a dead woman, and an episode of torn loyalties for Ronon: discovering that his Sateda brothers traded pride for survival in the enemy's service is the worst of betrayals. The duel with Tyre leaves the door ajar for redemption. The series reshuffles its cards without breaking its rhythm. A well-handled transition.
