The armed might of the false gods, for thousands of years. The Jaffa are humans modified to carry a Goa'uld symbiote in their belly. Fearsome soldiers, slaves who don't know they're slaves, until the day one of them, Teal'c, showed them they could say no.
The living cradle
A Jaffa isn't quite like other humans. The Goa'uld modified them to carry a pouch in their abdomen, meant to house a maturing symbiote. In return, that larva grants them strength, health and long life. The Jaffa becomes an exceptional warrior. The trap is perfect.
Slavery disguised as faith
Because this gift is a chain. Without a symbiote, a Jaffa dies. And it's the Goa'uld who hand out the symbiotes. The result: entire armies serve them out of dependence as much as belief, convinced that their master is a god. For thousands of years, the Jaffa die for those who enslave them.
The rebellion
Everything changes when warriors like Teal'c and Bra'tac see through the lie and dare to stand up. The revolt gains ground, world after world. The Jaffa turn their weapons against their former gods and finally found a free nation. It's one of the most beautiful stories in the saga: a people of slaves winning their own freedom.
