Kane's world mirrors our own fears: two blocs sizing each other up, a devastating weapon, and the slide toward catastrophe. Kane is desperately looking for a peaceful way out.
His alliance with SG-1, against the backdrop of a Goa'uld satellite that changes the whole game, illustrates how hard it is to defuse a war when mistrust is total. Kane embodies the clear-eyed statesman who prefers a fragile peace to a suicidal victory.
The actor
Kane is played by Matthew Bennett, a Canadian actor science fiction fans know notably for his role as the Cylon Aaron Doral in Battlestar Galactica. He gives the leader a composed gravitas.
