An aquatic alien creature who abducts Daniel Jackson to find his lost mate. Nem is the pain of grief transposed onto a being from elsewhere.
Overview
Nem is an amphibious alien who captures Daniel Jackson, not out of cruelty but out of desperation: for millennia he has been trying to find out what became of his mate, Omoroca, killed long ago by the Goa'uld.
His story
What Nem wants is the truth. He searches Daniel's memory in the hope of learning the fate of his beloved, who vanished on Earth thousands of years ago.
His melancholy story humanizes a being who is utterly alien. Behind the supposed monster hides an inconsolable widower. Nem illustrates one of Stargate's strengths: showing that pain, love and grief transcend the boundaries between species.
The actor
Nem is played by Gerard Plunkett, a British-Canadian actor who appears frequently in productions shot in Vancouver. Under the makeup, he gives real emotion to this character from the depths.
