Ripple Effect is episode 13 of season 9 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2005.
An SG-1 team comes back from a mission... then another, then yet another: dozens of identical teams pile up at the SGC, drawn from parallel realities pulled in by a singularity. Between two Carters arguing over the physics of the problem and a living Martouf from elsewhere, the worlds have to be sorted, and it turns out one of the teams didn't come by accident.
Why it matters to the mythology
The series' great multiverse vertigo: dozens of SG-1s, a resurrected Martouf, a living Janet, and an interdimensional hijacking plan.
The review
The franchise's smartest fan service: seeing Janet Fraiser and Martouf alive again, for the length of an episode, stirs sincere emotion that the series uses without cynicism. The quantum puzzle holds up, the Carters' working meeting is worth the trip, and the twist, a twin team ready to steal our ZPM to save their world, raises a devious question: what would we have done in their place? The honest answer stings a little. An absolute treat from a mature series.
