Overview
When a team comes back from a mission half-dead, or infected with something that doesn't have a name, she's the one who pulls them back. Dr. Janet Fraiser is the SGC's Chief Medical Officer: small in stature, enormous in courage, and the beating heart of the base.
Her story
Janet Fraiser runs the SGC infirmary, a post that puts her on the front line against the worst the galaxy brings back: alien viruses, unknown injuries, technologies that turn bodies inside out. Faced with the medical unknown, she always keeps her cool.
But Janet is much more than a white coat. She's a loyal friend, to Samantha Carter in particular, and a mother: she adopts Cassandra, the little girl rescued from Hanka. Her kindness and firmness make her one of the warmest figures in the program.
Her death, in the middle of a mission while she was trying to save a soldier, is one of the most heartbreaking moments in the entire saga. The SGC loses its beating heart, and the fans lose one of their favorite characters. Proof, if any were needed, that in Stargate heroism isn't measured by the number of enemies brought down.
The actress
Janet Fraiser is Teryl Rothery. Born in 1962 in Vancouver, this Canadian actress with a prolific career, who came up through dance and musical theater, gave the SGC's doctor all her humanity over seven seasons and more than 70 episodes.
Her departure, through Janet's death, was a heartbreak for the team and audience alike. Since then, Teryl Rothery has never stopped working: she has been seen in Arrow, Virgin River and countless TV movies. But for Stargate fans, she will forever be the little doctor with the big heart.
