Frozen is episode 4 of season 6 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2002.
Beneath the Antarctic ice, a stone's throw from the old gate site, a discovery chills the blood: a woman perfectly preserved for millions of years, and still alive. Ayiana heals with her bare hands, learns to smile, and carries a dormant virus against which humans have no defense. Her mere existence rewrites history: the Ancients lived on Earth.
Why it matters to the mythology
Proof that the Ancients are our direct ancestors, and the virus that will strike down O'Neill: two mythological bombshells in one episode.
The review
An insanely important episode disguised as a cold-storage drama. Ayiana, mute and then full of wonder, wins you over in a few scenes, and her final sacrifice, healing everyone except herself, hits home. But it's the reach of the subtext that's dizzying: the builders of the gates are our ancestors, and the line between humans and Ancients becomes a simple matter of time. The franchise has just found its axis for all the years to come.
