Descent is episode 3 of season 6 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2002.
One of Anubis's motherships is drifting above the Pacific, apparently abandoned. SG-1 goes aboard with a team and discovers the trap too late: the ship dives and sinks into the ocean, with everyone inside. Between flooded corridors, an uncooperative computer and Thor's consciousness hidden in the circuits, the exploration turns into an underwater escape.
Why it matters to the mythology
Thor's consciousness is recovered from the ship's systems: the Asgard owe Earth one more big favor.
The review
An effective disaster episode that makes full use of its setting: the water rising in the Goa'uld corridors creates a claustrophobia new to the series. Rescuing Thor, reduced to a file in an enemy computer, is a nice touch that will pay off later. Jonas continues his integration in small strokes, a brilliant observer nobody listens to yet. Good muscular entertainment.
