Past and Present is episode 11 of season 3 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 1999.
On Vyus, the entire population suffers from collective amnesia: no one remembers anything from before the great Veil. Among them, Ke'ra, brilliant and radiant, helps SG-1 unravel the mystery. The answer is poison: the Veil is the work of an old acquaintance of the team, and Ke'ra is much more than she believes herself to be.
Why it matters to the mythology
Linea's boomerang return settles the season 2 mistake and raises a dizzying question: without memory, are we still guilty?
The review
The sequel to "Prisoners," and subtler than the original. The central dilemma is real philosophy material: if the Destroyer of Worlds remembers nothing and does good, who exactly are we punishing? Daniel, still raw from Sha're's death, growing attached to Ke'ra adds a layer of unintended cruelty. The resolution through voluntary amnesia divides fans; personally, I find it elegant. A good cerebral episode.
