Forever in a Day is episode 10 of season 3 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 1999.
Amaunet is rounding up people on the Abydonian worlds, and SG-1 sets an ambush: in the prison camp, Daniel finally finds Sha're. The reunion turns into a nightmare when the Goa'uld queen attacks him with her ribbon device... and Teal'c has only a second to choose. Sha're dies at the hand of their friend, leaving Daniel one last message hidden at the heart of the pain.
Why it matters to the mythology
Daniel's founding quest ends in tragedy and transforms: he will no longer search for his wife, but for the Harcesis child she entrusted to him.
The review
The most heartbreaking episode of the first three seasons. The series had the guts to go all the way: no miracle, no last-chance extraction; Sha're dies, and Teal'c is the one who pulls the trigger. Delivering her message through the ribbon device turns a gadget into pure poetry, and Daniel's final forgiveness of Teal'c has a dignity that devastates me every time. Three seasons of searching end in tears, and the series comes out of it bigger.
