Brain Storm is episode 16 of season 5 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2008.
McKay accompanies Keller to a physics summit on Earth: his lifelong rival, Tunney, unveils a climate miracle, a system that draws heat out of the atmosphere... lifted straight from Rodney's work. The demonstration runs out of control, the conference room turns into a deadly icebox, and the two egos have to cooperate while the indoor blizzard spreads.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: the romantic Earth interlude, and McKay and Keller's first official kiss.
The review
An unabashed vacation episode: a disaster in an air-conditioned chamber, real physicists making amused cameos, and Rodney in a suit discovering that courage impresses more than equations. The Keller-McKay romance, the true heart of the episode, is sealed with disarming sincerity, stammered declaration included. The science of the cold is as fanciful as can be and nobody cares. Light, warm, successful in its category.
