Infection is episode 17 of season 5 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2008.
Todd's hive calls for help: the gene therapy has gone wrong, and the entire crew is eating away at its own ship, turned into a flying tumor. Aboard the sick vessel, the team discovers the scale of the disaster: the cure for hunger has awakened disease, and a weakened Todd is gambling his survival and his throne in the same move.
Why it matters to the mythology
Keller's therapy shows its deadly limits: freeing the Wraith from hunger remains a poisoned promise, and Todd survives, as always.
The review
A sick-ship episode with delightfully organic texture, necrotic corridors and festering cocoons, that makes the season's medical utopia pay up: healing the predator remains an equation with no clean solution. Todd, even dying, bargains like a horse trader, and his ability to survive everything is starting to look like a deliberate meta gag. The series nurtures its best ambiguous relationship with care. A good, grimy episode.
