Remnants is episode 15 of season 5 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2008.
An alien pod fished out of the sea triggers three parallel hauntings: Woolsey meets a perfect woman who doesn't exist, Zelenka a ghost colleague, and Sheppard... Kolya, back from the dead for a torture session as precise as it is impossible. The pod is a Sekkari intelligence testing its hosts before handing over its treasure: the DNA of its vanished people.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: the Sekkari ark and its mental projections, or the art of putting a civilization through a job interview.
The review
A nested episode of wild elegance: three illusions calibrated to three psyches, temptation for Woolsey, recognition for Zelenka, and for Sheppard guilt wearing Kolya's face, whose ghostly return gives Robert Davi a delicious curtain call. The twist, a morality test run by a dying ark, turns horror into melancholy. Woolsey giving up the ideal woman out of integrity wins our hearts for good. A very fine sleight of hand.
