The Prodigal is episode 14 of season 5 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2008.
Michael, reduced to one cruiser and a handful of hybrids, goes all in: he infiltrates Atlantis itself, sabotages the city and comes to claim what he thinks he's owed, Teyla and the child. The final chase runs through corridors and across rooftops, all the way to a walkway above the void where mother and monster settle their scores with bare hands.
Why it matters to the mythology
Michael dies at Teyla's hand: the creature born of the expedition's choices is put to rest by the one he persecuted most.
The review
The ending the Michael arc deserved: not a fleet battle but a home invasion, the monster in the house, and a final duel of brutal intimacy. Teyla prying her tormentor's fingers loose on the walkway is a definitive act, neither clean nor regretted, and the series is wise enough not to comment on it. You think back to the infirmary in season 2, where it all began with good intentions. Loop closed, debt paid, no one absolved. Powerful.
