Home is episode 9 of season 1 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2004.
A gate, a world of mist, and a miracle: Earth's address works, the power is there, and everyone goes home. Hammond welcomes the heroes, loved ones come back to life, everything is perfect. Too perfect: the mist was the trap, an entity that taps into minds to build tailor-made paradises, while the bodies stay at the edge of the gate.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode: the series' first great mirage, and an implicit admission that homesickness eats at the expedition more than it lets on.
The review
The perfect-illusion gimmick is a genre standard, but Atlantis plays it on its most sensitive string: exile. Each private paradise reveals a wound, Weir and the partner she left behind, Sheppard and his military ghosts, McKay and his runaway ego, and the unraveling of the inconsistencies is handled with mischief. The negotiated exit with the mist entities, without a shot fired, stays true to the house spirit. A nice X-ray disguised as a filler episode.
