The Storm is episode 10 of season 1 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2004.
A monster hurricane forces the evacuation of Atlantis... and the Genii seize the opportunity: Commander Kolya lands with his men to loot the empty city. Almost empty: Sheppard plays ghost in the corridors, McKay and Weir serve as technical hostages, and the survival plan, channeling the storm's lightning into the shield, requires everyone to stay alive long enough.
Why it matters to the mythology
Kolya enters the stage and the city suffers its first invasion: the Sheppard-Kolya enmity, the most personal in the series, is born here.
First appearance
The review
Die Hard on Atlantis, and the label is a compliment: Sheppard as the John McClane of flooded corridors, Kolya as an adversary finally on his level, with Robert Davi immediately imposing a granite authority. The double pressure, the storm outside, the Genii inside, is handled with an exemplary sense of tempo, and Weir's mock execution marks the series' real coming of age. The first half of a two-parter that remains the season's high point. Masterful.
