Planetary defense cannons capable of downing a Goa'uld mothership from the ground. Ion cannons are David versus Goliath: proof that a well-armed people can stand up to the gods.
Overview
Facing Goa'uld ships that dominate from orbit, some peoples strike back with ion cannons: powerful fixed weapons, anchored to the ground, capable of destroying a Ha'tak with a single shot.
The Tollan, like the Asgard, equip threatened worlds with them.
History
A single ion cannon is enough to give a System Lord pause: why risk your fleet over a planet that bites back? These weapons give less advanced peoples a chance to survive against the empires.
They embody an idea dear to the saga: technology, used well, can restore the balance between the strong and the weak, and make a world too costly to conquer.
