A Replicator android created by Atlantis to trap the Asurans. FRAN is a weapon with a human face, a machine born for a sacrifice.
Overview
FRAN, short for Friendly Replicator Android, is a Replicator android designed by McKay and the Atlantis expedition. Given a human appearance and a gentle personality, she is created for one specific purpose: to get close to the Asurans in order to destroy them.
Her story
FRAN raises a troubling question: can you create a consciousness solely to send it to its death? Fully aware of her mission, she nonetheless accepts it with disarming serenity.
Her brief, sacrificial existence makes her one of the strangest and most touching characters in Atlantis. FRAN embodies the moral dilemma at the heart of science fiction: at what point does a machine deserve to have us care about its fate?
The actress
FRAN is played by Michelle Morgan, a Canadian actress known notably for the family series Heartland. She gives the android a gentleness that makes her fate all the more poignant.
