The most insidious weapon of the Goa'uld: turning someone into a bomb without their knowledge. A Zatarc is a person whose mind has been reprogrammed with false memories and a hidden mission, most often an assassination, which they will carry out without being able to stop themselves.
Overview
A Zatarc does not know it is one. The real memory has been erased and a false one pasted over it, with a buried order: kill a specific target when the time comes. The trap is diabolical, because the person is sincere, convinced they are acting freely, until their programming kicks in.
History
The Tok'ra develop a detector capable of spotting these inconsistencies hidden in memory. The test is formidable: it lays bare the most intimate memories to expose the lie. And along the way, it is what reveals certain feelings some heroes would rather have kept quiet.
