Space is episode 11 of season 1 of Stargate Universe, first aired in 2009.
First contact, SGU style: blue spheres appear around Destiny, an alien hive-like ship attacks, and Chloe is abducted in the middle of an attempt at communication. Rush, whom everyone believed dead, returns through the most improbable of doors: a prisoner of the same aliens, he escapes with Chloe in a stolen shuttle. The reunion with Young promises to be icy.
Why it matters to the mythology
The Nakai aliens enter the stage: they have been tracking Destiny for a long time, and they've left things inside their prisoners' heads.
The review
Rush's return disposes of the false suspense with half a surprise, and just as well: the interest lies elsewhere, in these genuinely alien aliens, aquatic, mute and incomprehensible, a sharp break from decades of English-speaking enemies. Chloe's aquatic escape has some successful nightmare imagery. And the final Young-Rush face-off, two liars who know, establishes a deliciously toxic armed peace. The series has its outside enemy.
