Justice is episode 10 of season 1 of Stargate Universe, first aired in 2009.
A gun goes missing, a man is found dead, and Destiny holds its first trial: Camile Wray leads the inquiry, alibis crumble, and the investigation climbs toward the unthinkable. In the background, the cold war between Young and Rush reaches its breaking point: on a dusty planet, the colonel abandons the scientist near a crashed alien ship and comes back alone.
Why it matters to the mythology
Young leaves Rush for dead: the founding fracture of the command, with an alien ship lying in wait in the equation.
The review
The episode where SGU burns its boats: the military hero disguises an abandonment as an accident, and the series offers him no comfortable excuse. The Young-Rush duel, two irreconcilable legitimacies, reaches a muffled violence worthy of the best cable dramas. The trial that precedes it, with a real question of evidence, cleverly prepares the ground. You end up stunned: the family-friendly franchise has just left a main character to die on a rock. Radical.
