Lockdown is episode 3 of season 8 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2004.
A Russian cosmonaut, Colonel Vaselov, asks to join the SGC... and collapses, eaten away by an invisible presence. Anubis didn't die above Antarctica: reduced to a wandering essence, he jumps from body to body inside the base to reach the gate and escape. The SGC locks itself down, but how do you lock up a shadow?
Why it matters to the mythology
Anubis survives as a ghost and escapes to a frozen world: the monster is diminished, not eliminated, and the series keeps him in reserve.
The review
An effective possession chamber piece in which every handshake becomes suspect: Anubis as a stowaway in people's bodies turns the base into a paranoid scavenger hunt. Colonel Vaselov, the sacrificial hero of a single episode, gains astonishing dignity in a few scenes, and his final act commands respect. Anubis's exit, dispatched to a remote ice floe, smells like a plot drawer, but the hunt itself is masterfully handled. Good suspense.
