Inauguration is episode 20 of season 7 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2003.
A new President of the United States takes the oath: Henry Hayes discovers, in a classified file, seven years of the Stargate, foiled invasions and a black budget. At his side is a vice president named... Robert Kinsey, who is moving his pieces to take over the program, backed by the insinuations of a certain Richard Woolsey. The battle of Washington begins.
Why it matters to the mythology
Hayes and Woolsey enter the stage and Kinsey reaches the top: the political chessboard for the big season finale is set.
First appearance
President Henry Hayes, Richard Woolsey
The review
An entirely Earthbound episode, almost without SG-1, and yet gripping: Hayes establishes himself in three scenes as the president you'd dream of for this universe, a mix of wit and political courage, and Woolsey debuts as a principled weasel we'll love watching evolve for years. Kinsey savoring his vice presidency is slimier than ever. Civilian power takes back control of the saga, and it's better for it. Fine political theater.
