Death Knell is episode 16 of season 7 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2003.
The Alpha Site goes up in flames: Anubis has located it and razed it, and his Kull warrior is hunting the survivors through the forest, including Carter, alone and wounded, carrying the prototype anti-Kull weapon. In the rubble, one question poisons everything: who betrayed them? Tok'ra and Jaffa accuse each other, and the alliance cracks on all sides while Sam runs for her life.
Why it matters to the mythology
The Earth-Tok'ra-Jaffa alliance officially falls apart: everyone keeps their distance, and the dream of a united front wavers.
The review
A manhunt episode of superb tension, Carter as exhausted prey facing a killing machine, paired with a diplomatic divorce that hurts more than the explosion: allies of seven seasons part ways on a note of failure. Jacob's final silence, caught between his two peoples, says a great deal. The series dares to weaken its entire geopolitical scaffolding mid-season, and that risk will pay off. Tough and remarkable.
