Grace is episode 13 of season 7 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2003.
The Prometheus, flown by a skeleton crew, is attacked inside a gas cloud by an unknown ship: Carter wakes up alone on board, concussed, the crew vanished. Amid breakdowns, silence and an imaginary little girl named Grace, Sam talks with projections of the people close to her, Jack included, and faces the real question: what has she been running from all these years?
Why it matters to the mythology
A pivotal intimate episode: Carter faces her emotional loneliness and what she denies herself with O'Neill. Pete arrives right after, and that's no accident.
The review
Carter's "Grace", a monologue episode of quiet daring: forty minutes of Amanda Tapping alone, a luminescent cloud for an antagonist, and space psychoanalysis out in the open. The imaginary visits work like so many mirrors, and the inner Jack whispering what she already knows is cruelly on target. You may find it talky; I see the series at the peak of its intimate courage. An episode that doesn't cheat.
