The Sentinel is episode 20 of season 5 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2001.
The NID cowboys have struck again, in the past this time: on Latona, they once took apart the Sentinel, the miracle weapon that protects the world, to unlock its secrets. Now the Goa'uld are landing, the Sentinel is sputtering, and the SGC digs the two saboteurs out of prison to repair their crime, with the promise of a pardon at the end.
Why it matters to the mythology
After-sales service for the NID's off-world misdeeds: the series pays its continuity debts seriously.
The review
An honest repair-job episode, mostly worth it for its pair of convicts, one of whom is hiding the exact nature of the sacrifice required. The ending, the guardian fused to his machine who has to be replaced at the cost of a life, redeems an otherwise fairly mechanical plot. It's not the high point of the season, but the universe gains in consistency when old blunders come back knocking at the gate. Decent.
