The Warrior is episode 18 of season 5 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2001.
A Jaffa leader is galvanizing the rebellion: K'tano, Imhotep's former First Prime, preaches open war and works recruiting miracles. Teal'c believes in him, Bra'tac is wary, and O'Neill grumbles: K'tano's tactics look an awful lot like mass sacrifice wrapped in fervor. The truth about the man behind the prophet will hurt the cause badly.
Why it matters to the mythology
The Jaffa rebellion learns its costliest lesson: freeing yourself from gods also means freeing yourself from messiahs.
The review
An episode of remarkable political clarity: a personality cult can infect a revolution as surely as a symbiote. K'tano is as charismatic as you could want, his speeches make you want to believe, and that's exactly the trap. The final reveal, a minor Goa'uld disguised as a liberator, might seem cynical; mostly it says that freedom can't be delegated. And the staff fight between Teal'c and the impostor is superb on top of that. Underrated.
