2001 is episode 10 of season 5 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2001.
The Aschen are here, in the present: a delegation offers Earth the dream alliance glimpsed in the alternate future of 2010. The only hint of danger is a bloodstained note that fell out of the gate a year earlier, signed by O'Neill: "under no circumstances." The team has to sabotage the deal of the century without proof, facing politicians who are practically drooling, and find the homeworld of their charming génocidaires.
Why it matters to the mythology
The 2010 loop closes: the note from the future saves the present, and the Aschen leave with the only address they deserved.
The review
The direct sequel to "2010," and the suspense works in reverse: we know everything, the characters nothing, and every handshake makes you wince. Kinsey pushing to sign is depressingly accurate politically. The final revenge, giving the Aschen the coordinates of a world being consumed by its collapsing star, is the most coldly satisfying ending in the series. Machiavellian and exhilarating.
