The Serpent's Venom is episode 14 of season 4 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2000.
Apophis and Heru'ur, the two largest fleets in the galaxy, are about to seal an alliance that would crush everything in its path. The Tok'ra propose a precision sabotage: reprogramming a space mine in the middle of a minefield to fake a betrayal and turn the summit into a war between brothers. The slightest miscalculation, and it's SG-1 that blows up.
Why it matters to the mythology
Heru'ur is eliminated, but the Tok'ra plan gives birth to a monster: Apophis absorbs his fleet and becomes more powerful than ever.
The review
A space commando mission with flawless mechanical suspense: the sequence where the mine is reprogrammed by hand, in a spacesuit, while the fleets size each other up, is one of the season's great moments of tension. And I love that the victory is poisoned: the Tok'ra play chess, win their diversion, and unintentionally hand Apophis an empire. Consequences, always consequences: that's what makes this series great.
