Beneath the Surface is episode 10 of season 4 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2000.
A power plant beneath the ice, workers with no memory, and four laborers named Jonah, Thera, Tor and Carlin who feel strangely connected: SG-1 has been wiped and recycled into a workforce. The ruling caste of the city above has lied to everyone, and the memories resurfacing in fragments threaten the established order.
Why it matters to the mythology
A standalone episode, but Jonah and Thera flirt without the barrier of rank: one more piece of evidence in the Jack-Sam file.
The review
A memory-wipe classic that's better than its premise. Watching their personalities break through the amnesia, Jack grumbling without knowing why, Carter calculating in spite of herself, Daniel doubting by reflex, is a writing treat. And the Jonah-Thera romance says out loud what the regulations have kept quiet for four years. The workers' dystopia is standard fare but solid. Highly recommended.
