Thor's Chariot is episode 6 of season 2 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 1998.
Cimmeria pays the price for the destruction of Thor's Hammer: the Goa'uld have landed. Racked with guilt, SG-1 returns to help the Viking-like people and goes looking for help in Thor's sanctuary. At the end of the trial, the reward is immense: Thor's true face, a small gray being with a gentle voice, commanding a ship capable of wiping out a Goa'uld army in seconds.
Why it matters to the mythology
The first face-to-face encounter with the Asgard, and the birth of the great myth: the little gray men of Roswell were allies.
First appearance
Thor (in his true form), the Beliskner
The review
The cult episode par excellence. The whole season builds up the Asgard mystery, and the reveal dares a brilliant reversal: the hammer-wielding Viking god is actually the little gray alien of flying saucer lore. The nod to all of UFO culture is brilliant, and the Beliskner appearing over Cimmeria remains one of the most satisfying moments in the series. It's also a lesson in consequences: SG-1 repays here the moral debt it ran up in season 1. Essential.
