200 is episode 6 of season 10 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 2006.
The two-hundredth episode: Martin Lloyd returns to the SGC, hired by a studio to adapt Wormhole X-Treme! for the big screen, and he needs ideas. The team brainstorms, and every suggestion becomes a parody on screen: Vala's wedding, a puppet version, zombies, invisibility, Star Trek, rebellious teenagers... The series treats itself to a fireworks display of self-mockery for its TV golden anniversary.
Why it matters to the mythology
No stakes at all, and that's the point: the two-hundredth episode is a declaration of love to the fans, with O'Neill back as a guest.
The review
The funniest episode in the entire franchise, period. The puppet version has had me crying with laughter since 2006, the Farscape parody with Ben Browder and Claudia Black in their old roles is wildly generous, and O'Neill's surprise return seals the party. Every fan gets their wink, every genre cliché goes through the grinder with affection. You can feel a team that loves each other and loves its audience. A perfect celebration.
