The Nox is episode 7 of season 1 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 1997.
Sent to capture an invisible creature coveted by the Pentagon, SG-1 crosses paths with the Nox, a fragile-looking forest people. Slaughtered by Apophis, the team is brought back to life by these absolute pacifists who reject all violence. The lesson stings: the gentlest are sometimes the most powerful.
Why it matters to the mythology
The first of the four great races. The Nox reveal that the universe is home to civilizations far beyond human understanding.

The review
The episode that made me realize this universe would be vast. SG-1 barges in like conquerors in big military boots, gets massacred, and is resurrected by woodland hippies who could wipe Apophis off the map in the blink of an eye but choose not to. The lesson in humility is masterful: the young ones aren't ready. The Nox remain one of my favorite peoples, precisely because the series was wise enough to almost never bring them back.
