Politics is episode 20 of season 1 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 1997.
Daniel comes back from the other reality with one certainty: Apophis is going to attack Earth. At the worst possible moment, Senator Kinsey shows up to audit the program and cuts off its funding, convinced the gate attracts trouble instead of preventing it. An episode of debates, but one that introduces the series' most persistent political adversary.
Why it matters to the mythology

The review
Ah, the clip show. The bane of '90s TV, forced by budgets, and Stargate doesn't escape it: half the episode recycles footage we've just seen. It's saved at the last minute by Kinsey, a political scumbag superbly played by Ronny Cox, whose every line makes you want to climb through the screen. The debate over shutting down the program is actually pretty well written. But let's be frank: we watch it out of duty, for the finale's context.
