Bloodlines is episode 11 of season 1 of Stargate SG-1, first aired in 1997.
The Prim'ta ritual is approaching for Teal'c's son: receiving his first Goa'uld symbiote. Teal'c secretly returns to Chulak to spare Rya'c that fate, even if it means facing his own past. We meet Bra'tac, his weapons master, as funny as he is indestructible.
Why it matters to the mythology
The foundation of the entire Jaffa arc: dependence on symbiotes, Teal'c's family and the hope of a rebellion embodied by Bra'tac.
First appearance
The review
The first episode to give Teal'c something to play besides silent loyalty, and Christopher Judge seizes the chance. Discovering Chulak in peacetime, the abandoned family, the shame of the traitor and the arrival of Bra'tac, the old fox who steals every scene from his very first minute: it all works. It's also the episode that lays out the real Jaffa tragedy, the dependence on symbiotes that makes an entire people the biological hostages of their gods. Essential for what comes next.
