Back to the roots of the myth
10 episodes
This prequel looks back at the young Catherine Langford and the very first attempts to unlock the secret of the Stargate, shortly after its discovery. A short format that sheds light on the origins of the whole saga.
Where to watch (France)
In 1939, young Catherine Langford grows up in the shadow of the Stargate her father unearthed in Egypt. When a Nazi occultist officer seizes the artifact and activates it to uncover its secrets, Catherine sets off after him through the ring. Told in ten short episodes, this prequel chronicles the very first adventures through the Stargate, decades before the military program existed.
Why it matters to the mythology
A gap-filler for the origins: how young Catherine Langford, the program's future guardian, crossed paths with the Stargate long before SG-1.

The review
Stargate Origins is an endearing curiosity more than a grand return. This 2018 web series goes back to the 1930s to tell the story of a young Catherine Langford, the woman through whom the Stargate entered our lives, against a backdrop of power-hungry Nazi occultists. The budget is modest and it shows, with cramped sets and basic effects, and the short ten-part format struggles to build any real scope. But the intention is a good one: fill a blind spot in the mythology and prove there are still stories left to tell in this universe. Ellie Gall gives young Catherine a likable adventurer's spirit, and fans starved since the end of Universe found a bit of comfort in it, for lack of anything better. It's a far cry from the scale of the series, a minor treat, but after years of silence, hearing a chevron lock into place again was well worth turning a blind eye to the rest.
