Vengeance is episode 19 of season 3 of Stargate Atlantis, first aired in 2006.
Allied colonies are disappearing without a sound, and the trail leads to an underground lab: Michael, yet again, has industrialized horror. Using the Iratus bug and human material, he is building an army of hybrids, his own creatures, more loyal than the Wraith who disowned him. The team explores the nursery of the monster it created, and pays the price.
Why it matters to the mythology
Michael's hybrids go into mass production: the expedition's creature becomes a creator in turn, and aims higher.
The review
Michael's return finally embraces its horror-movie dimension: a gory lab, cocoons, half-human half-insect hybrids; the series has never been closer to pure survival horror. The character's logic is relentless: rejected by both species, he makes himself a third, and Connor Trinneer plays this methodical madness with a sadness that prevents simple disgust. The monster wins in the end, which sets the tone for seasons to come. Chilling and necessary.
